O Panneerselvam elected legislative party leader, to be next CM

AIADMK MLAs were in a huddle on Monday evening to plan the next course of action. As it became clear that their leader was in a grave situation, the party looked for a successor.

Even as Apollo released a statement announcing J Jayalalithaa's death, AIADMK MLAs elected O Panneerselvam as the legislative party leader. O Panneerselvam is all set to take over as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

AIADMK MLAs were in a huddle on Monday evening to plan the next course of action. As it became clear that their leader was in a grave situation, the party looked for a successor. O Panneerselvam who has been made Chief Minister each time Jayalalithaa had to resign from the post, was the obvious choice.

Panneerselvam was already discharging duties as Ad-hoc Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as Jayalalithaa continued to be in the hospital.
