Migrant workers too can avail TN's Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme
The incumbent DMK regime in Tamil Nadu completes two years in office tomorrow (May 7). Party workers are getting ready in full force for a grand celebration. DMK got back power in the State after a decade. In the past two years, the DMK government has stressed the importance of education and healthcare in its yearly budget rather than concentrating only on infrastructure developments.
First seed was sown at Hosur
Education and Healthcare departments in Tamil Nadu are getting more attention ever since CM Stalin mentioned that education and medicine are his two eyes. He launched this 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' scheme in 2021 at Hosur.

Public Health specialist Dr. Amalorpavanathan describes the scheme as the best-ever introduced for the welfare in the State. He even praises the scheme as the best in the country. As per reports, this scheme recorded nearly 8.5 lakh beneficiaries.
This scheme allows people to get treated at home for free rather than waiting at government hospitals. People especially in hilly regions and rural places are getting more benefits from this scheme. Separate articles have previously described how tribal people from Krishnagiri and Ooty are benefiting from this scheme.
Dravidian model govt for 2 years
Sharing his views on the performance of the DMK government over the past 2 years and its achievements, Dr. Amalorpavanathan further explains how migrant workers in Tamil Nadu will benefit from the schemes of the State government in the future.

He said, "The best scheme of the DMK government is the 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam'. Many people in Tamil Nadu are still struggling to visit a hospital for proper treatment. Many couldn't visit the hospital due to their physical conditions. They couldn't afford to travel from one place to another. Elderly people can't travel."
"So there are very many hurdles for a person to visit a hospital for basic treatment. There is a need for the government to give special attention to these kinds of people. And to fulfill that need, the Tamil Nadu government launched this 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' scheme. Lakhs and lakhs of people are benefiting from this scheme," he added.
Beneficiaries
People over 45 years of age are getting more benefits from this scheme. Also, many people with high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney failure benefited from this scheme as the doctors provided health treatments at home. Along with the doctors, medicines will also be provided at home. Thus, patients are getting medical treatments without much hassle. More than these facilities, patients who have suffered a stroke could get physiotherapy from professionals at home. Even dialysis could be done on the patient's premises.

Financial Statements amended
The Tamil Nadu government extended this scheme further in this financial year's budget. Along with elderly people and bedridden patients, CM Stalin wished to extend this scheme to labourers who are working all day.

Daily wagers and monthly income
Labourers are working from morning to evening every day. So most of them never had the luxury of taking care of their health. Many wouldn't even have the time to visit hospitals, even if they knew that they were sick.
So, for such working-class people, CM Stalin expanded the scheme where doctors visit to treat the working-class people in their workplace. This extended scheme will benefit nearly 8.35 lakh workers working in 711 industries in this financial year.

Migrant workers too to benefit
Along with Tamil workers, even migrant workers in Tamil Nadu could also avail of medical care under this scheme. CM Stalin wanted to include every migrant worker working in Tamil Nadu under this 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' scheme. They are working for the benefit of the State. So including them under the scheme will aid them in their medical needs. It is indeed a revolutionary step taken by the Tamil Nadu government.
This is the speciality of the Tamil Nadu government. Many rumours spread all over India about migrant workers being ill-treated in Tamil Nadu. That is not at all true. Tamil Nadu government is inclusive of all people with humanity.
As Dr. Amalorpavanathan said, it is indeed good news that all migrant workers in the State will benefit from this Dravidian model government.
