Madurai Accident Caught On Cam: Speeding Car Claims Lives of 2 Children, 4 Others

Two children and four others were killed in an accident in Tamil Nadu's Madurai on Wednesday. The incident occurred near Sivarakottai near Thirumangalam around 6 am.

The deceased have been identified as Pandi (35) of Nilayur, Kanagavel (62), Krishnakunar (56), Nagajothi(28), Siva Aadhmika (8) and Sivashree (8). The injured have been rushed and two people are battling for life.

They were residents of Madurai and were travelling from Tirunelveli after taking part in a temple festival last night.

The CCTV footage captures the moment when the speeding car veers out of control, colliding with a two-wheeler before careening over the median and swiftly disappearing across the opposite side of the highway.

Madurai SP BK Arvind came to the accident spot and made an enquiry about the unfortunate incident.

The two-wheeler who was first hit by the car was a fruit vendor. Kalligudi police have lodged a case. Such shocking incidents are frequently being reported in Tamil Nadu.

In February, a three-year-old child was killed after a bus rammed into a bike. The incident occurred in the Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The clip of the incident showed the bus hitting the bike as the two-wheeler tried to cross the road without putting an indicator. The bus driver, apparently, could not slow down and rammed the bike, bringing Ashok Kumar (32), his wife Susheela and their three-year-old child under the wheels.

In January, four people lost their lives and several others suffered serious injuries after three trucks and a car collided on the highway at Thoppur Ghat in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri on January 24

In December 2023, five persons were killed and 19 others were injured after a truck rammed into a roadside tea stall and a few vehicles parked near it in a village in Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai.

Based on 2022 data, Tamil Nadu reported the highest number of road accidents in the said year, totalling 64,105 incidents. Following closely behind were Madhya Pradesh with 54,432 accidents, Kerala with 43,910, Uttar Pradesh with 41,746, Karnataka with 39,762, Maharashtra with 33,383, Rajasthan with 23,614, Telangana with 21,619, Andhra Pradesh with 21,249, and Gujarat with 15,751.
