Chennai, Aug 8: Dr. M Karunanidhi, one of the tallest leaders of Dravidian politics, will be laid to rest in a sandalwood coffin with Tamil verse etched on it as per his wish.
'A person who continued to work without rest, now takes rest' written on the coffin of Karunanidhi. Thirty-three years ago, in a public meeting, Karunanidhi siad he wanted these line on his burial coffin. Finally, DMK cadres fulfilled his wish made three decades ago.
According to reports, Karunanidhi led a disciplined life, he used to start his day at 4.30 AM and goes to sleep at late night. He spent time reading and writing for the DMK newspaper, Murasoli. He ate in moderation, and switched to a predominantly vegetarian diet for health reasons, with cutlets and curd vada being his favourites.
The Madras High Court's verdict to allow the burial of former CM M Karunanidhi at Chennai's Marina beach. The Madras High Court ordered that there was no impediment to bury Karunanidhi's body in Marina. "The government is hereby directed to allow land forthwith, the high court said.
