Kanimozhi Pulls Up DMK Worker Over Derogatory Remarks Against Trisha Amid Dating Rumours With Vijay

DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi reportedly pulled up a party functionary for making derogatory comments about actor Trisha Krishnan during a consultative meeting held in Thoothukudi following the party's recent electoral setback in Tamil Nadu.

The meeting, organised for office-bearers of the Thoothukudi North District DMK, was chaired by Kanimozhi and attended by senior leaders including former minister Geetha Jeevan. Party members reportedly discussed the factors behind the DMK's defeat in the recently concluded elections, where the ruling party faced a significant challenge from Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).

During the discussion, one party functionary allegedly made disparaging remarks about Trisha, sparking discomfort among those present. Kanimozhi immediately intervened and strongly objected to the comments. Addressing the gathering from the dais, she reportedly reminded party cadres that women should never be spoken about in a degrading or insulting manner. Stressing the DMK's ideological responsibility, she is said to have instructed members to maintain dignity and respect while engaging in political criticism.

Her remarks come against the backdrop of repeated political attacks targeting Trisha during the election campaign, particularly over rumours linking her personally with Vijay. Several politicians from rival camps, as well as leaders within the DMK itself, drew criticism for invoking actresses' names while attacking TVK and its leader.

Among them was DMK leader KP Shankar, who courted controversy during a government event in Tiruvottiyur. While criticising Vijay's political capabilities, Shankar reportedly referred to the actor's associations with actresses Trisha and Keerthy Suresh in a mocking manner. His comments triggered backlash online, with critics accusing him of reducing women to tools for political ridicule.

Earlier, former DMK minister MRK Panneerselvam also faced scrutiny after making indirect jokes involving Trisha and Keerthy Suresh while speaking about Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam. During a public speech, he engaged in wordplay around the initials "TVK", prompting party cadres to shout out the actresses' names. The exchange drew laughter from the crowd but also criticism from opposition voices and social media users who viewed the remarks as sexist and unnecessary.

Political opponents have also been accused of dragging film personalities into campaign rhetoric. Leaders from the AIADMK and Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran have similarly made comments referencing the actress during political exchanges.

Kanimozhi's intervention has since drawn attention for setting a contrasting tone within the DMK, with supporters praising her for publicly condemning misogynistic language and reinforcing the need for respectful political discourse.
