Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam launched by CM Stalin in Kanchipuram

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has launched the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam in Kanchipuram (today) on the birth anniversary of Annadurai (September 15). The function was held in the stadium of Kanchipuram Pachaiyappas College for men. The scheme is aimed at providing monthly financial assistance of Rs.1000 to more than 1 crore eligible women family heads in the state.

In 2021, the promise of Rs.1000 as monthly financial assistance was made during election campaign. During the budget for the financial year 2023-24, 7000 crores was allotted for the implementation of the scheme. In July 2023, CM Stalin inaugurated the camp held at Thoppur Government Higher Secondary school in Dharmapuri, for the women family heads to apply for the scheme.

Totally 35,925 camps were held and 68,190 volunteers assisted in the camp. Around 1.63 crore women applied for the scheme out of which, 1.06 crore applications were accepted. The remaining 56.50 lakh applications were rejected based on non-compliance factors. Even then, the government has asked the candidates to apply again online.

The eligibility was based on annual income which shouldn't be more than 2.5 lakhs; electricity consumption which should be below 3600 units per year; owning of vehicles etc. The details were cross-checked with government's list of income tax payers; vehicles registration list at district transport offices and bill details from electricity department.

The implementation process was started before the launch of the scheme to avoid technical difficulties. Few days back, the bank details of the applicants were verified by sending Rs.1 to their bank accounts. Owing to the seamless completion of the trial process, the scheme has progressed into the final stage which is the transfer of Rs.1000 to the eligible women family heads every month.

Within September 18, all the eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs.1000 as monthly financial assistance. For the beneficiaries, an exclusive ATM card will be provided to access the fund. The detailed guidelines for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam was released by the government for better understanding and awareness creation.
