July 26 Tamil Nadu Dam Levels: Water Level Status In Mettur & Other Dams Today
The water level at Mettur Dam rose by nearly 3 feet on Thursday (July 26), reaching 92.62 feet from 89.31 feet the previous evening. This increase is due to water being released from Karnataka's Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini dams, prompted by significant inflows from ongoing rains.
The Mettur Dam's full capacity is 120 feet. Just a week ago, the water level was at 44.62 feet. On July 14, Karnataka began releasing water into the Cauvery River at a rate of 20,000 cusecs, which was later increased to 80,000 cusecs.

The rise in water inflow has surpassed the outflow, leading to a steady increase in the Mettur Dam's water level. This trend is not unique to Mettur; many other dams in the region are also seeing rising water levels.
Tamil Nadu's extensive network of dams is crucial for managing the state's water resources. These dams are essential for maintaining a stable supply of water for drinking, agriculture, and electricity generation. The state is home to 116 large dams, with 78 managed by the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department (TNWRD). Key dams, such as the Mettur Dam on the Cauvery River and the Vaigai Dam in the Western Ghats, play vital roles in agriculture, power generation, and overall water management.
Apart from Mettur, several other dams have also experienced increased water levels.
