Journalist Murasoli Selvam Passes Away; CM Stalin, Rajinikanth Express Condolence

Veteran Tamil Nadu journalist Murasoli Selvam passed away in Bengaluru on Thursday morning at the age of 82 due to health complications.

Selvam, the former editor of Murasoli, the official publication of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), was a key figure in Tamil journalism and politics. He was also the brother of former Union Minister Murasoli Maran and the son-in-law of late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, deeply affected by the loss, shared his condolences, describing Selvam as a "brother-guide" who had been a constant source of support throughout his life. In an emotional post, Stalin said, "After the departure of the Chief Artist, today I have lost that last shoulder to lean on-the pillar of principle."

Selvam is survived by his wife, Selvi, Karunanidhi's daughter, and their daughter. His mortal remains are being kept at the late Karunanidhi's residence for the public to pay their respects.

Many political figures expressed their sorrow at Selvam's passing. Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai posted on X (formerly Twitter), offering his condolences to CM Stalin and Selvam's family, writing, "I am deeply saddened to know that Murasoli Selvam has passed away. My deepest condolences on behalf of the Tamil Nadu BJP. I pray for his soul to rest in peace."

Citing health issues, Selvam had stepped down as editor of Murasoli, with his role now taken over by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Karunanidhi's grandson and Tamil Nadu's deputy chief minister.

Superstar Rajinikanth also took to X to mourn the loss of his longtime friend, writing, "Mr. Murasoli Selvam was a wonderful man and a longtime friend of mine. I am deeply saddened by his passing. My deepest sympathies to his family. May his soul rest in peace."
