'Jailer' 1st Week Box Office Collection: Rajini's Flick Earns Rs 375+ Cr; Authentic Or Exaggerated?

Sun Pictures has formally announced the first-week collection of Rajinikanth's 'Jailer', which hit the screens on August 10.

The production house on Twitter claimed that the movie has minted Rs 375.40 crore at the worldwide box office in the first week. However, Sun Pictures has not given the official break-up of business made in each territory.

Jailer 1st Week Box Office Collection: Rajinis Flick Earns Rs 375+ Cr; Authentic Or Exaggerated?

Trade trackers on the other hand have claimed that the movie has garnered over Rs 400 crore at the worldwide box office. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film has raked in over 125 crore with some box-office experts predicting the flick to have minted over Rs 150 crore in its home territory.

These claims have also left many fans questioning the authenticity of the claims. What has raised debate around the box-office collection of 'Jailer' is the tweets posted by film producer and critic G Dhananjeyan.

As many social media influencers posted random numbers and some indulged in a negative campaign against the Rajinikanth-starrer, he questioned why the Film Chamber and the state government have not given a nod to a centralised software to track the collection of movies.

"To bring in transparency in Box Office Collections & reporting to Govt (for Tax collection) & to Producers/Distributors, a team of professionals developed a centralised software with my involvement. This was presented to top people in State Govt & Producer Council. But it has not moved an inch after that for two years now.

If we had implemented it, a lot of change would have taken place & benefitted the entire film industry., including reporting to media. What to do? It takes time to bring in good changes in this industry 👊," he tweeted.

The timing of his tweets irked the fans of Rajinikanth who attacked him why he was silent when the trackers were spreading inflated box-office numbers of other stars' movies.

As they started abusing him, he said, "As a courtesy, I accept feedbacks/views and questions. But I block those who do not understand the context of my posts and blindly abuse/troll as I simply don't want any negativity in my timeline. You are entitled to your views & so do I. But you are not entitled to abuse anyone personally. Got it?✍️"
