Income Tax Officials Raid At DMK Leader R Avudaiyappan's Residence

A team of Income Tax department officials searched senior DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker R Avudaiyappan's residence on Thursday. According to the reports, the Income Tax department got a tip that a big amount of cash is kept at the DMK leader's residence, which is likely to be used in the upcoming elections to woo voters.

Avudaiyappan is DMK's District Secretary for Tirunelveli (East) unit.

The reports said a nine-member team led by Sasi Shankar conducted the search at Maharaja Nagar in Palayamkottai and recovered a hefty amount.

After the raid, the senior DMK leader was asked to sign a statement that mentioned details about the search and the sum recovered from his property.

At first, Avudaiyappan was reluctant, but later signed the statement, an official reported.

Lok Sabha Elections In Tamil Nadu:

In view of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Tamil Nadu is one of the prominent states with 39 Seats. The state currently has MK Stalin-led DMK government, and the party is part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).

The state will go under polling on April 19.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is in alliance with Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi (KMDK), Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK).

In 2019, the party had a straight fight with AIADMK, but this time, the battle of Tamil Nadu is expected to be a triangular fight as BJP has parted ways with the two-leaf party and has announced to go solo. The saffron front is riding high on the K Annamalai and PM Modi's popularity and eye to clinch the maximum number of seats from the down south.
