How To Get E-Pass For Ooty, Kodaikanal, Nilgiris Online? Step By Step Guide To Visitors

To regulate vehicle entry into the Nilgiris and Kodaikanal, the Madras High Court had recently directed the respective district administrations to establish a system for issuing e-passes to vehicles intending to visit these popular hill stations.

The District Collectors of Nilgiris and Dindigul were asked to create an online system or form to allow all vehicles planning to visit the Nilgiris and Kodaikanal to submit their details and obtain an e-pass. Only vehicles with such passes will be permitted entry.

The directive was issued by a division bench comprising Justices N Sathish Kumar and D Bharatha Chakravarthy on Monday, as part of interim orders in a case concerning the determination of carrying capacity in the Nilgiris and Dindigul districts. Kodaikanal is situated in Dindigul district.

From When This E Pass Becomes Mandatory?

The rule is coming to effect from May 7 and it will be applicable till June 30. It means if you are travelling the hill stations during this period, it is mandatory for the visitors to obtain the e-pass.

Nilgiris District collector M Aruna on Sunday said that the district administration is collaborating with the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) to create software to generate e-pass.

Speaking to ANI, she said, "We have joined hands with the TNeGA and we have created a software wherein the people can apply and enter Nilgiris. All they have to do is they have to give some basic details like their name, their address, the number of days they are going to stay in Nilgiris, the location where they are going to stay and the vehicle name, type, etc. that is available on the website. After that, an ePass will be generated. The ePass will have a QR code which will be scanned by our people on the checkpost. There is no restriction on number of vehicles or number of tourists. With respect to the local persons we have exempted them from the e-passes..."

How To Generate E Pass?

  • Log Into to - https://epass.tnega.org/home
  • You will find two options whether you are coming from India or outside India
  • Click one of the two options
  • Enter your phone and you will receive an OTP
  • You will be asked to select your destination
  • Fill the Details like your name, address, duration of the stay, etc.
  • Enter your vehicle name along with the number and other details.
  • Complete the process to generate the pass.

Should Nilgiris Citizens Have To Buy E-Pass?

However, the citizens residing in the Nilgiris District who have Nilgiris District Registration Number "TN 43" do not require an E pass for those vehicles.

Thiagarajan, the Regional Transport Officer of Udhagamandalam, stated that individuals who have purchased vehicles from other districts and transferred ownership to the Nilgiris district can obtain an E-pass by visiting the Udhagai Regional Transport Office. They need to present the original registration certificate, insurance certificate, and pollution certificate for verification before the E-pass is issued.
