Health Update: Chennai Doctor Balaji Jagannathan's Condition Is Stable, Says Tamil Nadu Minister
Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian on Wednesday visited Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital in Guindy to get the health update of Dr Balaji Jagannathan who was stabbed by a man earlier in the day.
Giving health update of the injured doctor, Ma Subramanian said, "The assailant Vignesh's mother Kanchana came to the hospital with an advanced stage of cancer and underwent palliative chemotherapy for six months and the cancer has spread and damaged her lungs. Later, they were discharged and she was sick recently, and consulted a private hospital. They have claimed that there was no proper treatment given to her,"

A senior official from Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital said: "The oncologist Dr Balaji Jagannathan, a heart patient, recently underwent surgery. He was stabbed in seven places and had severe blood loss. He has been treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) and his health condition is stable for now. Since, the doctor has been taking Acitrom tablets after his surgery, it might lead to excessive loss of blood,"

This horrifying event took place around 10:15 am, shocking the hospital staff and patients alike. The assailant attempted to flee the scene after the attack but was he apprehended by the hospital's staff and later handed over to the law enforcement officials at Guindy police station.
The medical community is reeling from the shock of this unprecedented attack. Dr. L Parthasarathy, the Hospital Director, provided an update on Dr. Balaji's condition, stating, "He has suffered multiple injuries to the scalp, head, neck, and ear. We are assessing the injuries. His condition is critical." Dr. Balaji is currently undergoing emergency surgery in a fight for his life.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner A Arun, speaking to reporters, said, "We have come to review the security arrangements. We will instruct and discuss (with officials) to see what measures will be taken to ensure their (doctors') safety. This is the first incident, we will review the incident and let you know further updates."
