From Where Will Thalapathy Vijay Contest His First Election? Strong Chances From This Tamil Nadu Constituency

Actor Vijay, who has founded Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has started preparing to contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. From appointing office bearers to issuing statements, he is slowly but steadily making his moves as he gears up to enter the political battlefield.

Vijay may command hug fan following among youths and many might thought that it would be easy for him to contest in a place like Chennai, it is now reported that he is looking beyond the state capital.

As per a report in DTNext, sources close to TVK suggest that Vijay is keen to contest from a constituency that represents for marginalised communities. Particularly, he has set his eyes on Tamil Nadu's Delta region and Ramanathapuram for his maiden electoral bid.

Support for Fishermen & Minority Communities

Insiders have told the English publication that Vijay is likely to choose a constituency with a significant presence of fishermen, a community he has consistently supported in his public discourse. His past statements and actions have highlighted concerns over the plight of Tamil Nadu's fishermen, particularly in the context of conflicts with the Sri Lankan Navy.

A senior TVK leader noted, "He has consistently raised his voice in favour of these communities, especially the fishermen, and has previously shown solidarity with them, particularly when Tamil Nadu's fishermen were facing attacks from the Sri Lankan Navy. His previous public appearances include a rally in Nagapattinam where he expressed his concern for the plight of Tamil Nadu's fishermen. Such activities have strengthened his bond with these communities," .

Vijay On The Footsteps of MGR?

Beyond fishermen, sources say Vijay is also considering areas with significant minority populations, including Christians and Muslims, reinforcing his image as a leader for the underrepresented. Taking inspiration from the Kollywood stalwart and late AIADMK founder, MGR, Vijay is set to woo the working class and the downtrodden. Hence, Vijay sees the Delta and Ramanathapuram regions as politically significant but lacking a towering leader to champion their causes.

With the stage preparing for the 2026 assembly polls, all eyes are on Vijay's next move. More importantly, about the seat in which he will make his debut. Political pundits believe that wherever he contests, the battle will be interesting since the ruling DMK, NDA and the AIADMK will be leaving no stone unturned to put strong candidates to defeat the actor who is popularly known as Thalapathy.
