Fortune Teller Arrested After Predicting NDA Candidate's Victory In Tamil Nadu

After an 81-year-old fortune-teller predicted the victory of a PMK candidate named Thangar Bachan in Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, he landed in trouble as the cops arrested him for keeping parrots in captivity.

The fortune teller identified as Selvaraj was briefly arrested by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, India Today reported. Thangar Bachan is a filmmaker who offered prayers to Azhagu Muthu Ayyanar temple at Thennampakkam near Cuddalore after which he met the fortune teller.

It all started after a video emerged on social media platforms depicting Selvaraj using a parakeet. Authorities took action, apprehending Selvaraj and seizing his cage housing two parakeets, alleging a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act for purportedly using the birds to predict the fortunes of the PMK candidate.

Meanwhile, PMK chief Anbumani Ramadoss has slammed the arrest and questioned whether all fortuner tellers employing such methods would face arrest. He urged the governemnt to people's beliefs.

Bachan started his career as a cinematographer, making his mark with his debut film 'Malai Charal.' Renowned for his contributions to 'Mogamul' and 'Bharathi,' he later ventured into directing with his debut 'Azhagi.' Beyond his cinematic pursuits, Bachan sporadically delves into literary endeavors. Notably, he has authored novels such as 'Onbathu Roobai Nottu' and 'Ammavin Kai Pesi,' later adapting them into films under his own directorial guidance.

He has directed movies such as 'Pallikoodam', 'Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal' and 'Karumegangal Kalaigindrana' among others.

The PMK is a Vanniyar community-dominated party and has significant influence in some of the northern districts of the state. This election, it has forged alliance with the BJP.

As per the understanding, PMK will fight from 10 seats in Tamil Nadu in the NDA.
