Explosion At Firecracker Factory In Sivakasi: At Least 8 Killed, 12 Injured

At least eight workers were killed in an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sivakasi on Thursday.

As per the reports in the Tamil media, 12 people have been injured in the incident that occurred in Sengamalapatti near Sivakasi.

The injured people are undergoing treatment at the government hospital. The fire factory is a licensed unit.

The cops have started the investigation to find out what led the explosion.

Sivakasi is renowned as India's hub for manufacturing fireworks and holds a significant portion of the country's production of firecrackers, safety matches, and stationery items.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his condolence over the tragic incident. In a post on X, he stated that he contacted the District Collector of Virudhunagar and instructed him to carry out the rescue operations as soon as possible and also directed to ensure that the injured get proper treatment.

However, the CM further said, "I convey my deepest condolences and condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased workers. Relief assistance to the victims will be provided with the approval of the Election Commission."

President Draupadi Murmu mourned the loss of lives in the incident. She said, "Saddened to learn about the loss of many lives due to an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."
