DMK's Key Meeting Tomorrow: Will Udhayanidhi Be Proposed for Deputy CM?

DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan has announced a key meeting of DMK District Secretaries scheduled for August 16 at the Kalaignar Auditorium in Anna Arivalayam in Chennai. This important gathering will be chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Speculation is rife that the meeting may propose UdhayanidhiStalin for the Deputy Chief Minister position, with some members possibly advocating for this resolution. However, it is anticipated that Stalin might reject this proposal, making it more of a procedural formality.

DMK Meeting to Discuss Leadership

Udhayanidhi reportedly not interested in the Deputy Chief Minister role, citing his already demanding responsibilities as Minister of Sports. He believes that assuming the Deputy Chief Minister role would require him to manage up to 90 per cent of the Chief Minister's duties.

The Tamil Nadu Cabinet Meeting held yesterday did not address the Deputy Chief Minister post. Notably, this was the first meeting without Udayanidhisince his appointment as Minister, as he was abroad and unable to alter his travel plans.

Chief Minister Stalin is set to travel abroad on August 27, prompting speculation about potential significant changes within the DMK. Questions are being raised about whether a decision regarding the Deputy Chief Minister post will be made before these changes occur and if a new Cabinet might soon be sworn in.

During the recent Cabinet Meeting, no discussions occurred regarding the Deputy Chief Minister post or Cabinet reshuffles. Instead, Stalin held brief, individual discussions with each Minister after the meeting. While he was expected to provide guidance on these matters, no such discussions materialized.

Stalin mentioned his upcoming foreign travel during the meeting, reassuring Ministers that his thoughts remained with them and Tamil Nadu despite his physical absence.

The Cabinet Meeting did, however, approve projects worth Rs 44,000 crore, focusing on the Industrial and Energy sectors. No decisions were made regarding the Deputy Chief Minister post or any Cabinet changes during this session.

DMK insiders suggest that the upcoming District Secretaries Meeting might see several crucial decisions. The outcomes of this meeting could significantly impact the party's future direction and leadership structure.

Whether any decisions regarding the Deputy Chief Minister role will be finalized before Stalin's trip and potential internal changes in the DMK remains to be seen. The party's leadership dynamics may shift based on these developments.
