DMK MPs Resolve To Oppose Delimitation, Strengthen Alliances To Protect Tamil Nadu’s Representation
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin chaired a meeting of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs on Sunday to discuss the issues of delimitation and the National Education Policy (NEP).
The party resolved to unite with other states affected by the proposed delimitation exercise to oppose measures that penalise population control.

The DMK MPs also agreed to collaborate with the opposition's INDIA bloc and other democratic forces to safeguard Tamil Nadu's parliamentary representation.
"At today's DMK MPs meeting, we resolved to: Stand united in safeguarding Tamil Nadu's parliamentary representation. Bring together parties from affected states to resist attempts that penalise population control. Work with INDIA bloc & democratic forces to uphold our rights in delimitation," Stalin stated in a post on X.
Additionally, the MPs reiterated their strong opposition to the "imposition of Hindi" and the NEP, while also demanding a fair share of central funds for Tamil Nadu, Stalin added.
The delimitation exercise, originally scheduled for 2026, aims to redefine the number of parliamentary representatives a state sends to the Lok Sabha based on its population. Stalin has argued that this process could weaken the political influence of states like Tamil Nadu, which have successfully controlled their population growth.
Earlier this week, he addressed a letter to the chief ministers of seven states, condemning the delimitation exercise as a "blatant assault" on federalism that unfairly punishes states that have prioritised population control and good governance.
Last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attempted to dispel concerns in Tamil Nadu, assuring that southern states would receive a fair allocation of parliamentary seats in the delimitation process. He also stated that if the number of seats increased, southern states would be granted an equal share.
DMK MPs to Raise Delimitation Issue in Parliament
During Sunday's meeting, the DMK MPs passed a resolution to bring the delimitation issue to the forefront in the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament, which is set to resume on 10 March, according to ANI.
Another resolution highlighted that the delimitation exercise would be a key issue in the parliamentary session, and the MPs expressed gratitude to CM Stalin for his leadership in addressing the matter.
"DMK MPs will raise their voice in Parliament in support of Chief Minister M K Stalin's efforts to safeguard Tamil Nadu's Lok Sabha constituencies," one of the resolutions stated, as per ANI.
