High Voter Turnout in Dharmapuri Constituency Challenges Major Parties

The Dharmapuri parliamentary constituency has always seen a lot of people voting in elections. This time, with PMK's Samuthravani Anbumaani running for office, it looks like the usual big parties, DMK and AIADMK, might have a hard fight on their hands.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Dharmapuri stood out with the highest number of people coming out to vote. Samuthravani Anbumaani represented PMK, allied with BJP, while DMK had A. Mani, AIADMK had Aasokan, and Naam Tamilar Katchi had Abinaya as their candidates.

Dharmapuri Sees Record Election Turnout

People in Dharmapuri were very keen to vote this time, with the voting percentage reaching 75.44% by the end of the day. This enthusiasm is not new; Dharmapuri has seen high voter turnouts in past elections too. For instance, in 2014, 81.18% voted, and in 2019, the figure was slightly higher at 82.41%. The assembly elections in 2021 also saw a good turnout with percentages varying across different areas within Dharmapuri.

High voter turnout has historically benefited both DMK and PMK. For example, DMK's Thamaraichelvan won in 2009 and PMK's Anbumani Ramadoss in 2014. In the last election in 2019, DMK's Senthil Kumar won against Anbumani Ramadoss. It's interesting to see if this trend helps Samuthravani Anbumaani or any other candidate this time around. The results are eagerly awaited until June 4.

Dharmapuri has not only seen a high voter turnout but also ranks second in Tamil Nadu for the number of votes cast this time, just after Kallakurichi. Other constituencies like Chidambaram, Perambalur, and Namakkal also saw high participation rates. This shows that people across various parts of Tamil Nadu were keen to vote this election season.
