Cyclone Vardah rips Hyatt apart in Chennai

The mind boggling visuals were captured by a Chennai resident who posted videos and pictures of winds tearing apart the fibre panels off the hotel building.

Severe cyclonic storm Vardha ripped apart Hyatt, a star hotel in Chennai. Heavy winds dismantled fibre panels of the Hyatt building in a matter of minutes.

The mind boggling visuals were captured by a Chennai resident who posted videos and pictures of winds tearing apart the fibre panels off the hotel building. Heavy winds tore the panels apart leaving the building looking like an underconstruction concrete tower.

The visual is perhaps an example of the wind speeds that rattled Chennai on Monday. Severe cyclonic storm Vardah made its landfall near Chennai. Heavy rains and winds are expected to continue till the wee hours of Tuesday.

Heavy rains and winds brought hoardings, bill boards, electric poles and trees down causing massive damage. Temporary structures were blown away in coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.
