Chennai Vegetable Price: What's Cheaper, What's Costlier?

Vegetable prices at Chennai's Koyambedu market have seen a significant increase in key essentials as of Thursday, compared to earlier in the week. Prices for staples like onions, tomatoes, and potatoes have surged, impacting household budgets, DTNext reported.

Onions, in particular, have witnessed a sharp rise, now priced at Rs 90 per kilogram-a nearly 30% jump from the previous day's Rs 70. Tomatoes have also become more expensive, increasing by Rs 2 and currently being sold at Rs 35 per kilogram.

Garlic remains high at over Rs 300 per kilogram, showing no signs of price relief, while ginger maintains its rate at Rs 180 per kilogram. On the positive side, green peas have seen a reduction, dropping from Rs 230 to Rs 200 per kilogram on Thursday.

Other common vegetables such as carrots, beans, and brinjals have shown price stability, with no significant changes observed. The fluctuation in prices underscores the variable market trends affecting essential commodities in Chennai.
