The traffic police apprehended a motorist named S Hemanath (27) on Sunday around 10 pm near Koyambedu at Poonamallee High Road. As per the cops, Hemanath is a contract worker in a central government office.

When the breathalyzer test was conducted on him, it revealed alcohol levels of 550 mg/100 ml, which is significantly higher than the legal limit of 30 mg/100 ml of blood. As a result of driving under the influence, Hemanath was charged with drunk driving and failure to present a valid driver's license.

Irked by the cops' gesture, the motorist allegedly abused the officers on duty. Arul and Dinesh got furious and assaulted him.

However, the cops seized the vehicle and handed over it to the family on Monday. On the other hand, the motorist, who was injured in the incident, was treated at the Government Stanley hospital.
