Chennai Rains: Indigo Flight Makes A Dangerous Landing In Harsh Weather; Watch Viral Video

A video showing an IndiGo aircraft struggling to land in Chennai has gained significant attention. The incident occurred just before Cyclone Fengal's landfall, causing heavy rain and strong winds. The plane attempted to land amid turbulence but aborted the touchdown at the last moment, tilting alarmingly to the left before flying away.

IndiGo confirmed that the Mumbai-Chennai flight encountered adverse weather conditions, including rain and gusty winds. The airline explained that a go-around was executed, which is a standard procedure when a safe landing cannot be achieved. "Due to adverse weather conditions, including rain and strong, gusty winds (which later led to the closure of Chennai airport), the cockpit crew of flight 6E 683, operating between Mumbai and Chennai, executed a go-around on November 30, 2024, in accordance with established safety protocols," said IndiGo.

Standard Safety Protocols

The airline emphasized that such maneuvers are routine and pilots are well-trained for these situations. "This is a standard and safe maneuver, and our pilots are extensively trained to handle such situations with the utmost professionalism. A go-around is performed when a safe landing cannot be achieved, as was the case with this flight," the statement added.

The plane eventually landed safely in Chennai around 12:40 pm. This was shortly before the airport ceased operations due to Cyclone Fengal's impact. The cyclone made landfall later that night, bringing heavy rainfall across northern Tamil Nadu's coastal districts and Puducherry.

Cyclone Fengal's Impact

As Cyclone Fengal hit, it caused severe weather conditions leading to waterlogging in parts of Chennai. Tragically, at least three individuals lost their lives due to rain-related incidents in the city. The cyclone's effects were felt across various regions as it triggered widespread rainfall.

IndiGo reassured passengers that safety remains their top priority during such challenging weather events. The airline continues to follow strict safety protocols to ensure passenger well-being while navigating adverse conditions like those experienced during Cyclone Fengal.
