Chennai: Over 60 Special Trains To Clear Diwali Rush

Special trains have been announced by Southern Railway to clear the increased number of passengers ahead of the Diwali festival between Chennai Egmore and Tuticorin.

Train No. 06001, the Chennai Egmore - Tuticorin Superfast Festival Special Fare Special, is scheduled to depart from Chennai Egmore at 11:45 pm on November 10 and 12 (Friday & Sunday) and will arrive at Tuticorin by 12:30 pm the following day.

Train No. 06002, the Tuticorin - Chennai Egmore Festival Special Fare Special, will depart from Tuticorin at 3:30 pm on November 11 and 13 (Saturday & Monday) and is expected to reach Chennai Egmore at 4:45 am the next day.

These special trains will include coaches such as 1 AC two-tier coach, 1 AC three-tier coach, 1 AC three-tier economy coach, 10 sleeper class coaches, 5 general second class coaches, and 1 luggage cum brake van.

The train route includes stops at Tambaram, Chengalpet, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, and Kovilpatti.

As per a statement from the zonal railway, Train No. 06067, the Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Diwali Special Vande Bharat Express, will depart from Chennai Egmore at 6 am on Nov 9, arriving at Tirunelveli by 2:15 pm.

No. 06068, the Tirunelveli - Chennai Egmore Diwali Special Vande Bharat Express, will leave Tirunelveli at 3 pm and reach Chennai Egmore at 11:15 pm.

These trains will make stops at Tambaram, Villupuram, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, and Virudhunagar.

Over 60 Special Trains To Be Operational

The Southern Railway will be operating more than 60 special train services for the Deepavali festival this year.

The special trains are being planned in 12 sections to clear the passenger rush expected to travel to their native places in various parts of the State and nearby States of Kerala and Karnataka.

As per the statement, a total of 60 special trains will be be operational, including 11 services for Chennai-Nagercoil-Chennai, 8 services for Chennai-Tirunelveli-Chennai, 4 services for Kochuveli-Bengaluru-Kochuveli, 6 services for Chennai-Santragachi-Chennai, 6 services for Chennai-Bhubhaneshwar-Chennai, 6 services for Nagercoil-Bengaluru-Nagercoil, 6 services for Chennai-Mengaluru-Chennai, 6 services for Tirunelveli-Chennai, 3 services for Nagercoil-Mengaluru, 3 services for Mengaluru-Nagercoil, and 1 service for Ernakulam-Dhanbad.
