Chennai Mom Exploits Daughter's Friends, Pushes Them Into Prostitution; Arrested

The Anti-Vice Squad (AVS) of Chennai Police arrested a mother K Nadhiya (37), along with six others on Monday for allegedly pushing her daughter's classmates into prostitution.

According to Tamil media reports, a team led by Inspector Selvarani raided a lodge in Valasaravakkam and rescued two girls aged 17 and 18.

Apart from Nadhiya, the police arrested Sumathi (43), Maya Oli (29), Jayashree (43), Ramachandran (42), Ramandran (70) - all residents of Chennai - and Ashok Kumar (31) from Coimbatore. The arrested individuals were presented before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Those present in the lodge were taken to the police station for further investigation. It was revealed that Nadhiya had targeted her daughter's classmates after reviewing their social media profiles. The girls from low-income families became her prey as she became friendly on the pretext of teaching them dance and beautician classes.

She used to pay Rs 25,000-Rs 35000 while sending them to her clients. If the girls raised objections, she would threaten them that she had their videos and would share them with their parents.

When sending them outside Chennai, she asked the young girls to cook up stories to convince their parents.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that some of the girls were taken to other cities like Hyderabad and Delhi. Also, some of the clients were elderly men from Coimbatore and other cities.

The police suspect that there may be other victims as well and intend to seek custody of the accused to obtain further details.

Authorities from the District Child Protection Unit (South), Childline, and Child Welfare Committee (South) collaborated with the police to interview the victims and provide additional counseling.
