Chennai Metro Sets New Benchmark With 95 Lakh Passengers

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has recorded its highest ever ridership in the month of July.

Between July 1-July 31, over 95 lakh people travelled in the Metro Rains in Tamil Nadu's capital. A statement said, "CMRL has always endeavored to provide the people of Chennai with a safe, efficient, and reliable travel partner. A total of 95,35,019 passengers have travelled in the Metro Trains from 01.07.2024 to 31.07.2024."

The CMRL witnessed a consistent increase in its passenger flow as 11,01,182 more passengers traveled on the Metro Trains in the month of July 2024 than in the month of June 2024.

The CMRL noted that on July 12, 2024 recorded the highest passenger flow for the month, with 3,50,545 passengers.

Meanwhile, the Google Maps has launched a slew of new features, including direct metro ticket bookings in Chennai. This facility is powered by the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and Namma Yatri.

"Now, when you search for public transport directions in these two cities, you'll start seeing a new booking option for the metro leg of your trip. With a simple tap, you will be guided through the booking and payment process, powered by ONDC and Namma Yatri, eliminating the need to wait in line at the station," said the company's blog.
