Chennai Metro News: CMRL Gives Important Updates - Check Here

Amid heavy rainfall in Chennai and surrounding regions, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has released an important safety update for passengers. Waterlogging in key areas has led to several advisories regarding metro station access and parking.

According to the CMRL's statement:

Waterlogging at Koyambedu Metro: Passengers are advised to access Koyambedu Metro Station via the foot overbridge from Poonamallee High Road (Rohini Theatre side) due to water accumulation on B-Road.

Safety Measures at Central Metro: At the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station, the park-side entry escalator (B1 entrance) has been switched off for safety reasons. Passengers are urged to use the staircase carefully at all metro stations.

Parking Advisory: Due to the forecasted rains, passengers are asked not to park their vehicles at Koyambedu, St. Thomas Mount, and Arumbakkam Metro stations, as well as other parking areas prone to water stagnation, from October 15 to 17. Further updates will be provided based on weather conditions.

Assistance Helplines: For any assistance, passengers can contact 1860 425 1515, and the Women's Helpline at 155370.

Encouragement to Use Metro Services: The public has been urged to utilize Metro services during this time for safer travel.

The CMRL has stated that a further update will be provided on October 16 at 4:30 AM if there are any developments.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday for schools, colleges, government offices, and public undertakings in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts on Wednesday, October 16, in response to the continued heavy rainfall.

Despite the closures, essential services, including police, fire, rescue operations, municipal services, and water supply, will continue to operate.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for several other districts, including Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, and Cuddalore, as well as for Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

Residents are advised to stay cautious and take necessary precautions as the weather conditions persist.
