Chennai Metro 2nd Phase: 100% Piling Works On Corridor 4 Completed
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced the completion of 100% piling work in an 8-kilometer stretch of Corridor 4 under its Phase 2 project. This marks a significant milestone in the city's ongoing metro expansion efforts.
In a statement, CMRL revealed that the piling activities have been completed in the stretch between Kodambakkam Powerhouse and Porur Junction Station, referred to as ECV 01. The stretch includes five single-decker and four double-decker stations, requiring 2,255 piles for structural support. These pile foundations play a critical role in transferring structural loads to deeper layers of soil, ensuring stability.

CMRL highlighted the challenges faced during construction, including the diversion of 24.45 kilometers of utilities and the redesign of pile layouts to safeguard essential infrastructure. Among the noteworthy achievements was the diversion of a massive 1,500mm water line, which was executed without disrupting water supply in the region.
The milestone was celebrated in the presence of key officials, including Thiru. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Thiru. S. Ashok Kumar, CGM (T & EC), Tmt. Rekha Prakash, CGM (P & D), Thiru. Murugamoorthy, Team Leader (GC2-AEON), and Thiru. Jayaraman, Project Director (L&T), alongside senior representatives from CMRL, General Consultants, and the contractor teams.
About Corridor 4 - The Orange Line
Currently under construction, the Orange Line (Corridor 4) is a vital component of Chennai Metro's Phase 2 project. Spanning over 26 kilometers, the line will enhance intra-city connectivity, running from Poonamallee Bypass to the Lighthouse region.
The corridor features 28 stations, 10 of which will be underground and 18 elevated, catering to the growing transportation needs of the city. Once operational, it promises to offer commuters an efficient and convenient travel option, significantly expanding Chennai's metro network.
This milestone not only represents a step closer to completing the Orange Line but also underscores CMRL's commitment to overcoming technical challenges and delivering world-class infrastructure to the city.
