Chennai Latest Weather Report

The Regional Meteorological Department on Tuesday afternoon predicted that light to moderate rain at one or two places with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. However, heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Tiruvallur and Ranipet districts, the weather-monitoring agency said in a statement.

As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, the statement said, "Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light/Moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature to be 29-30 ˚C and Minimum temperature to be 24-25 ˚C."

It means the situation is expected to improve in Chennai although the water has not receded from the roads and streets in many areas.

Residents in some parts of Chennai reported no rain since the early hours of Tuesday and mentioned that power services had been restored in those areas. However, train services to and from the city remain suspended.

On the other hand, the airfield area of Chennai airport is open since 9 am on Tuesday and airlines and other stakeholders have been intimated for planning their operations, according to officials.

Rains have stopped, and water has receded in the Chennai airport area and there is no water stagnation in the runways or taxiways, officials said adding that a lot of slush and filth was being cleared out.

Officials said that priority is given for departures to clear the stranded passengers at the airport.
