Chennai Gold Price Today - May 12: Know Which Jewellery Shop Offers Gold At Cheaper Price Today

Gold prices continued their upward march across leading jewellery stores in Chennai on Tuesday, with 22-carat gold hovering above the Rs 14,000-per-gram mark in most major outlets. Silver prices too remained elevated, trading largely between Rs 285 and Rs 300 per gram, reflecting strong bullion market sentiment.

According to rates published by prominent jewellers, Chennai's retail gold market witnessed marginal variations between brands, though the overall trend remained firm amid sustained global demand and investor interest in safe-haven assets.

Among the leading retailers, GRT Jewellers quoted 24-carat gold at Rs 15,355 per gram, while 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 14,065. The store also listed 18-carat gold at Rs 11,516 and 14-carat gold at Rs 8,957 per gram. Silver was sold at Rs 285 per gram.

Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, one of Chennai's oldest jewellery houses, priced 24-carat gold at Rs 15,224 per gram and 22-carat gold at Rs 13,945. The jeweller's 18-carat gold rate stood at Rs 11,418, while silver matched GRT's price at Rs 285 per gram.

Meanwhile, Lalitha Jewellery quoted 22-carat gold slightly higher at Rs 14,115 per gram. Silver prices at the retailer touched Rs 300 per gram, indicating stronger retail pricing in comparison to bullion-linked rates.

Saravana Stores Elite Jewellery also kept 22-carat gold above the Rs 14,100 mark, selling it at Rs 14,110 per gram. Its 18-carat gold rate stood at Rs 11,553, while silver remained at Rs 300 per gram.

A sharper premium was visible at Swarna Maligai, where 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 14,330 per gram - among the highest rates recorded in the Chennai market on Tuesday. The retailer quoted 18-carat gold at Rs 11,950 and silver at Rs 300 per gram.

Outside Chennai, Kota Gold Jewellery listed 24-carat gold at Rs 15,382 per gram and 22-carat gold at Rs 14,100. Silver rates there remained aligned with Chennai prices at Rs 285 per gram. For larger quantities, the jeweller quoted Rs 1,41,000 for 10 grams of 22-carat gold and Rs 2.85 lakh per kilogram of silver.

D.A.R Jewellery priced 22-carat gold at Rs 14,115 and 18-carat gold at Rs 11,557. The store's silver pricing varied depending on purity, with standard silver at Rs 254 per gram, sterling silver at Rs 277, and 99.9 silver bars at Rs 282 per gram. Its 99.9 gold bar rate stood at Rs 15,710 per gram.

Bullion market data for Tamil Nadu showed 24-carat gold trading at Rs 15,465 per gram and 22-carat gold at Rs 14,176 as of Tuesday morning. Silver 999 fine was quoted at Rs 282 per gram. The rates suggest that retail jewellery prices continue to closely track bullion market movements, though making charges and local premiums vary between retailers.

Jewellery traders say the elevated prices are being driven by a combination of global economic uncertainty, central bank buying, and strong domestic investment demand. With the wedding season continuing in parts of South India, demand for gold jewellery is expected to remain steady despite record-high prices.
