Chennai Braces For Thunderstorms, Lightning With Light To Moderate Rain

The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted light to moderate rains for Chennai for the next two days.

It has also forecast rain for a few places in the state for next seven days. "Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at
one or two places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area," the weather monitoring agency said in its daily bulletin.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai can expect partly cloudy skies today. There's a chance of experiencing light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in certain areas during the evening and night. Temperatures are forecasted to reach a maximum of around 36°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 26-27°C.

The weather agency said that during the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 IST on June 13, 2024, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal were generally below normal to near normal, with some areas experiencing above-normal temperatures.

The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Madurai (Airport) at 38.5°C.

In terms of temperature ranges, the plains of North Interior Tamil Nadu saw maximum temperatures between 29-36°C, while the plains of South Interior Tamil Nadu experienced temperatures between 35-39°C. North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal saw temperatures ranging from 34-37°C, while South Coastal Tamil Nadu experienced temperatures between 30-37°C. The hilly areas recorded temperatures between 17-23°C.

Chennai recorded a normal maximum temperature, with the Meenambakkam (MBK) area recording 36.1°C (down by 1.2°C) and the Nungambakkam (NBK) area recording 36.9°C (down by 0.1°C).
