Chennai-Bengaluru In 2 Hours In 5 Months With Greenfield Corridor Completion

The long-awaited dream of a smoother commute between Bengaluru and Chennai, as well as within Bengaluru itself, is nearing realization with the ambitious project set to transform transportation in the region.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday announced that the Greenfield Corridor connecting Bengaluru to Chennai will be completed by December 2024. This corridor promises to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities to just 120 minutes.

Highlighting the importance of these infrastructure developments, Gadkari stated their role in alleviating Bengaluru's traffic congestion. The Greenfield Corridor, a project with a budget of Rs 17,930 crore initiated back in 2018, has been in development for six years and is poised to open its lanes by the year's end. Its inauguration, scheduled to be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscores the significance attached to this transformative initiative.

In addition to the Bengaluru-Chennai Greenfield Corridor, another critical project nearing completion is the Bengaluru Satellite Township Ring Road (STRR), estimated at Rs 17,000 crore. Originally launched in June 2022, this project aims to connect Bengaluru's peripheries, traversing through key areas such as Dobbspet, Ramanagara, Magadi Road, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Sarjapur, and Hosur. By diverting traffic away from the city's core, the STRR is anticipated to reduce intra-city congestion by up to 30 per cent.

Gadkari's announcement at the valedictory event of the Karnataka BJP special state executive committee meeting marks a milestone in the state's infrastructure development. He pointed out that Karnataka has been allocated a staggering Rs 3.5 lakh crore for road transport projects over the past decade, illustrating a concerted effort to enhance connectivity and ease traffic woes across the region. With every Member of Parliament from the state securing funding for their respective projects, Karnataka is poised to witness a transformative era in its transportation landscape.

As these projects near completion and their benefits become tangible, Bengaluru and Chennai residents can look forward to shorter travel times and improved urban mobility, ushering in a new chapter of connectivity and convenience for South India's dynamic urban corridors.
