Chennai: 4 travelling on footboard die after being hit by iron pole
Chennai, July 24: In a tragic incident, four passengers on a local train died and at least 10 others injured after being hit by iron poles beside the railway tracks at Chennai's St Thomas Mount on Tuesday.

According to news agency ANI, they were travelling on footboard of a train this morning.
The four passengers died on the spot, one person died while being shifted to a nearby hospital. Two others have been admitted in Royepattah General Hospital and three have been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital, as per The Hindu report.
Of the four, three were students aged between 16 and 25 years and the identity of the fourth person was yet to be established, police said, adding that six persons were also injured in the incident, reports PTI.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami condoled the deaths and announced a solatium of Rs 1 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those grievously injured.
