Caught On Cam: Stray Cow Attacks Woman & Her Child; Netizens Slam Chennai Authorities
A disturbing video of a stray cow attacking a woman and her child in Balaji Nagar, Kolathur, has gone viral, reigniting concerns over the growing issue of stray animals in Chennai.
Going by the video, the cow first tried to attack the child. When the mother tried to protect the child, the cattle attacked her. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera and the clip of the incident has gone viral.

However, neighbors came to her rescue and managed to chase the cow away. As per a report in Daily Thanthi, she was taken to a nearby hospital on an ambulance for treatment. Following the incident, officials from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) captured the cow, and took it away in a vehicle.
Social Media Reaction
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with residents expressing frustration over the lack of permanent solutions for such incidents. One user tagged the GCC, highlighting the recurring issue: "Repeated complaints about cattle and stray dogs are ignored. Every day, we face the same problem, but no action is taken. In my area alone, there are over 150 stray cattle and countless dogs roaming freely, especially in the mornings and evenings."
Another user questioned the authorities' inaction, writing, "Why can't something be done permanently to rid our streets of this menace? Don't tell me you don't have the guts to address this? Stray cattle and dogs have a place in society, but not on our roads!"
A third user shared their ongoing struggle, stating, "We've been repeatedly raising this issue with the GCC, asking them to remove cattle tethered near Ayyavoo 2nd Cross Street in Shenoy Nagar, close to Valli Primary School. But our complaints seem to fall on deaf ears."
Such Incidents On The Rise
The incidents of cattle and stray dog attacks are on the rise in the recent years. Notably, a 9-year-old girl was attacked and hurled by a cow in the MMDA colony in August 2023. The incident took place when the girl was returning home from her school along with her mother and 5-year-old brother.
As public frustration mounts, residents are urging the GCC to take stricter measures to control stray animals and ensure the safety of citizens. The viral video serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for effective action to tackle this growing problem.
