Caught on Cam: Car Attempts to Evade Toll Fee, Nearly Kills Employee In Madurai
An alarming incident unfolded at the Madurai Kappalur toll plaza, where an employee narrowly escaped an attempted vehicular attack.
The driver made a reckless attempt to strike the employee who prevented him from evading toll payment.

Following a formal complaint lodged by the toll booth employee, law enforcement authorities promptly launched an investigation into the matter.
The incident was caught on a CCTV camera and the clip has now gone viral. In Tamil Nadu, the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) data reveals a concerning trend in road accidents and fatalities. In 2023, there were 66,841 reported accidents resulting in 18,074 deaths, marking an increase from the previous year's figures. In 2022, there were 64,105 accidents resulting in 17,884 fatalities.
Further back, in 2019, there were 62,685 accidents resulting in 18,129 deaths, and in 2018, there were 67,279 accidents resulting in 18,392 deaths. Notably, the years 2020 and 2021, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, are excluded from this analysis.
Alarmingly, the data shows that in Tamil Nadu, one fatality is reported in every fourth accident, with 25% of accidents proving to be fatal. This underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in the state.
