The other four members who were part of the failed robbery attempt are yet to be arrested.

The passengers in the targeted car narrowly escaped an attack on the Salem-Kochi highway, occurring just 200 meters before a toll plaza near Madukkarai.

The rear and dash cameras of Siddique's car recorded videos of the assailants chasing and attacking it.

In the viral video, a man wearing a red shirt and a black mask emerged and began smashing the windshield with a weapon. Shortly after, approximately five others joined him. However, before the situation escalated further, the occupants of the car accelerated forward and sped away, forcefully breaking through the open doors of the SUV that had been used to obstruct their path.

Coimbatore district superintendent of police V Badrinaryanan said that the accused had the information about Siddique having unaccounted cash.

Complainant Aslam Siddique hails from Pattimattom in Ernakulam and he was returning from Bengaluru after purchasing computers and peripherals.

"They came out of the blue. We managed to escape since we were able to take the car forward. Otherwise, they would have killed us. As we went a bit ahead, we saw a police team along the road. We sought their help and showed them the dashcam video. They passed on the information about the car to other units," Siddique told the daily.

"Everything occurred within a minute. That quick thinking saved us. But mentally we were shocked. It was a horrible experience," he added.
