Boost For NDA As PMK Joins AIADMK-Led Alliance Ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls

In a significant political development, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Wednesday formally joined hands with the AIADMK-BJP alliance, setting the stage for a formidable Opposition front ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

The announcement was made jointly by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and PMK president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss after a meeting at EPS's residence on Greenways Road in Chennai.

Following closed-door discussions on alliance modalities, the two leaders appeared together before the media, signaling PMK's official entry into the coalition. Palaniswami described the partnership as a "winning alliance," asserting that it reflected the aspirations of party cadres and supporters across both organizations. He emphasized that the alliance's primary mission was to unseat the ruling DMK government, which he accused of pursuing anti-people policies, and to establish a welfare-oriented administration.

Expressing confidence in the coalition's prospects, EPS predicted that the alliance would secure victories across a majority of Tamil Nadu's 234 constituencies. He likened the campaign efforts of the AIADMK, BJP, and PMK to the relentless work of "bees and ants," promising tireless dedication to ensure a sweeping mandate. While confirming that seat-sharing arrangements had been finalized, he noted that specific details would be announced at a later stage.

Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss hailed the alliance as a "happy and long-awaited moment" for PMK cadres. He said the party had chosen to align with AIADMK to challenge what he described as a corrupt, anti-women, and anti-social justice regime under the DMK. Drawing on his recent 100-day padayatra across rural Tamil Nadu, Anbumani claimed that villagers expressed widespread dissatisfaction with the DMK government and were eager to register their discontent at the ballot box.

The PMK's entry into the alliance is seen as a major boost for the Opposition. With a significant vote base and influence in nearly 100 constituencies, particularly in northern Tamil Nadu, the PMK's support is expected to strengthen the AIADMK-BJP combine's electoral prospects.
