BJP-DMK Are Double-Barreled Gun: TVK Chief Vijay Slams Govt On Cooking Gas Price Hike

Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Tuesday slammed the Union government for the hike in cooking gas and petrol prices, calling it an "attack on common people."

In a statement released on Tuesday, he demanded an immediate rollback of the increased rates, accusing both the BJP-led Centre and Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK of failing the public.

"Unjust Burden on Struggling Families"

Vijay condemned the rising cost of essentials, stating that the LPG cylinder price hike adds to the financial strain on households. "At a time when people are already struggling with inflation, this decision only deepens their suffering," he said.

The Centre on Monday announced that cooking gas price has been hiked by ₹50 per cylinder. The gas price has been increased for both Ujwalla and general category customers, Union oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated.

Vijay also questioned the timing of such hikes, alleging that governments reduce prices before elections only to raise them later. "The BJP has made it a habit to reduce gas prices around elections. Now, with global crude oil prices dropping, why isn't the Centre passing on the benefits to the public?" he asked.

"DMK's Unfulfilled Promise"

Turning his focus to Tamil Nadu, Vijay slammed the DMK government for failing to deliver on its 2021 poll promise of a ₹100 subsidy per gas cylinder. "Four years have passed, yet the DMK has done nothing. Instead, they blame the Centre while ignoring their own commitments," he said.

Warning of Public Backlash

Vijay warned that people would strongly oppose the "anti-people policies" of both governments. "The BJP and DMK are like a double-barreled gun, deceiving citizens with false promises," he said, vowing that his party, TVK, would stand with the public in this fight.

Tamil Nadu is preparing for the next assembly elections which is scheduled to be held next year. This issue is expected to become a major election issue.
