Annamalai Ploughed, Vijay Harvested: Tamil Actress Vinodhini Praises BJP Leader
Tamil actress Vinodhini Vaidyanathan's remarks on former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has drawn the attention after she credited him for mobilising young voters against Dravidian politics before actor and TVK founder Vijay capitalised it.
In a post on X, the critically acclaimed actor wrote: "Annamalai ploughed, sowed, and watered for four and a half years. Vijay harvested in six months."

The remark, initially perceived by some as sarcastic or mocking, drew sharp trolling from various quarters. But Vinodhini, known for her roles in Ratsasan, Soorarai Pottru and Ponniyin Selvan, quickly clarified her stance.
"I'm neither saying this sarcastically nor jokingly, brother," she explained in a follow-up post. "Whatever Annamalai's faults and my dislike of him, he mobilised youth in Tamil Nadu towards a change from Dravidian politics. At the time when he should have been platformed as a leader, he was let go."
She added that Vijay's recent political acceleration, timed closely with approaching elections, was purely coincidental - yet it allowed the Master star to harness anti-Dravidian sentiment entirely to his benefit.
Annamalai headed the BJP's state unit for two years before being replaced by Nainar Nagendran, despite having delivered the party's highest-ever vote share in Tamil Nadu. Under his leadership, the BJP contested 23 seats and secured 11 per cent of the vote, a sharp rise from the 3.58 per cent garnered in 2019.
Of late, there have been reports of the BJP sidelining K Annamalai. It was said that he was not happy with the seat-sharing arrangement with the AIADMK in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. This led the leader not to contest in the polls.
However, Vinodhini, whose extensive filmography includes OK Kanmani, Game Over and Ponmagal Vandhal, has never shied away from political commentary. Her latest intervention has reignited discussions about the realignments underway in Tamil politics, with some observers agreeing that Annamalai's groundwork created space for newer entrants like Vijay's Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam.
