Affidavit Mismatch: Could a 2025 Madurai Case Disqualify Vijay From Perambur Race?

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and president Vijay finds himself in a trouble after failing to reveal in his affidavit for Perambur constituency about the pending cases, DTNext reported.

Election officials are currently weighing whether to reject his papers over the omission of information regarding pending criminal cases.

The Affidavit Mismatch

The controversy stems from a glaring inconsistency between the affidavits Vijay filed for two different seats: Perambur and Tiruchirappalli (East).

Perambur Filing: Vijay initially declared he had zero pending cases.

Tiruchy East Filing: His second affidavit listed two pending cases.

While one case involves a recent campaign violation, the more problematic omission is a case dating back to August 2025. Registered at the Koodakovil police station in Madurai, the complaint alleges that bouncers at a TVK conference assaulted a fan who climbed the stage to see the leader. Legal experts suggest that failing to disclose this pre-existing case in the Perambur filing constitutes a serious breach of election rules.

Beyond the legal hurdles, Vijay's financial disclosures have sent shockwaves through Tamil Nadu. The actor has declared total assets exceeding ₹620 crore, underscoring his status as one of India's highest-paid performers.

Interestingly, despite persistent rumours regarding a divorce, Vijay included his wife Sangeetha's holdings in the document. The affidavit also paints a picture of a family financier; Vijay has extended substantial loans to his inner circle, including ₹12.6 crore to his spouse, and smaller amounts to his parents, S.A. Chandrasekhar and Shobha, and his children.

The TVK camp is reportedly exploring a "corrective course" by submitting a revised affidavit to clarify the discrepancies. However, the final decision rests with the Returning Officer. If the rules are strictly enforced, the "Thalapathy" of Tamil cinema may face a setback before the first vote is even cast. For now, the electorate waits to see if his political career will face an early interval or a grand opening.
