Wait continues for 'acchhe din' in job market

New Delhi, May 24: Pinning their hopes on the government's flagship schemes like 'Make in India' and 'Skill India', human resource experts believe it may take 12-18 months before the results start showing up in the job market.

The latest Labour Bureau survey has also shown a slowdown in the job creation, although there are signs of growth in manufacturing, infrastructure and mining sectors, which are among the major job creators.

"I think job creation still remains a pipe dream while it seems there are policy decisions moving in that direction," global executive recruitment firm Antal International India MD Joseph Devasia said, adding "it would take another 12-18 months before some concrete results are visible".

Vijay Deshpande, VP and Head, Human Resources, JK Tyre & Industries India and Mexico Business, said, "We believe it is too early to judge. With the government's pro-business outlook and support that the Make in India campaign is getting from every industry, we are sure that the promises will be met."

However, a major cause of concern is the lack of skilled workforce and to meet this challenge, experts advocated for a stronger partnership between the government and the industry to train the burgeoning young population.

"The focus on Make in India labour reforms, ease of doing business and, most importantly, the thrust on education and up-skilling the youth are steps in the right direction, which have and will continue to generate jobs in the near future," Hero Mindmine Director and CEO Sandeep Soni said.

According to a survey by global HR major ManpowerGroup, 58 per cent of Indian employers are finding it difficult to fill positions. While, globally, 38 per cent of employers face talent shortage.

"Overall, there are lots of expectations that need to be worked upon by the government to skill and utilise the unemployed population of the country," ManpowerGroup India Executive Director and President Srikanth Rengarajan said, adding that the government seems to be progressing well with its initiatives, highlighting a brighter picture in coming months."

According to a survey by job portal Wisdom Jobs, the employment scenario is likely to see an upward swing in the coming quarters, driven by rising demand in the domestic market.

"The positive impact created by the Make in India campaign is already visible in the form of the increase in hiring numbers across most sectors in the past quarter. This trend is only likely to increase in the ongoing and coming quarters as well," Wisdom Jobs founder and CEO Ajay Kolla said.
