Indian Stock Market To Remain Open On Budget Day? Here's The Answer

On the budget day, which is also a Saturday, will stock market open? This is a question that is on minds of every person who trades or has interest in stocks or share market.

People are curious for the Union Budget 2025 as they are expecting big changes in the tax slab that may affect pockets of millions. Also, Finance Minister will announce her plans and strategies for next 5 years, which will impact on the share market heavily. This will be the 8th occasion when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget.

For the budget day, February 1, 2025, the National Stock Exchange of India Limited has announced a special trading session, which means that stock markets will be open on Saturday.

The market will remain open for entire day, i.e. from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm.

Earlier, in 2015 and 2020, Union Budgets were presented on Saturday and a special trading session was announced. The market typically remains closed on weekends, but on significant days like the Union Budget and Diwali, market opens for special trading sessions.

Market Performance ahead of Union Budget 2025:

On Friday, the Sensex rose by 741 points while the Nifty closed above 23,500. This surge was driven by strong buying in Larsen & Toubro after its Q3 results and an optimistic Economic Survey predicting a pro-growth budget. The Sensex extended its rally for a fourth consecutive day.

The BSE Sensex climbed by 740.76 points or 0.97%, closing at 77,500.57. It reached a peak of 77,605.96 with an intraday gain of 846.15 points or 1.10%. Similarly, the NSE Nifty increased by 258.90 points or 1.11%, ending at 23,508.40 after reaching an intraday high of 23,546.80.
