Donald Trump Announces US Refinery Revival After 50 Years, Thanks Reliance For ‘Tremendous Investment’
US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will get its first new oil refinery in five decades, describing the proposed project in Brownsville, Texas, as a landmark development for the country's energy sector.

The announcement was made through a post on Truth Social, where Trump said the refinery would be backed by investment linked to India's Reliance Industries Ltd.
The development comes at a time when the Trump administration is aggressively pushing its "energy dominance" strategy, while global oil and gas markets remain under pressure amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel.
Trump Announces Brownsville Refinery on Truth Social
Taking to Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump said the refinery would be set up at the Port of Brownsville in Texas and would mark the first new oil refinery to open in the United States in 50 years.
"I am proud to announce that America First Refining is opening the FIRST new U.S. Oil Refinery in 50 YEARS in Brownsville, Texas," Trump said Tuesday in a post on Truth Social.
In the same post, he linked the project to Indian investment and specifically acknowledged Reliance Industries, calling it a major contributor to the proposed venture.
Trump Calls It a Historic $300 Billion Deal
Trump described the refinery proposal as a "historic" investment and claimed it represented the largest deal in US history, though the precise structure of the financial arrangement remains unclear.
"THIS IS A HISTORIC $300 BILLION DOLLAR DEAL - THE BIGGEST IN U.S. HISTORY, A MASSIVE WIN for American Workers, Energy, and the GREAT People of South Texas! Thank you to our partners in India, and their largest privately held Energy Company, Reliance, for this tremendous Investment," Trump wrote further.
While Trump referred to the project as a $300 billion deal, it remains uncertain whether that figure applies solely to the refinery or whether he was referring to a broader economic arrangement involving India and energy investments.
'America First Agenda' Behind Project, Says Trump
The US president said the proposed refinery was a result of his administration's "America First Agenda", which he claimed had made large-scale industrial projects easier to launch through faster permits and lower taxes.
The Trump administration has repeatedly prioritised expanded domestic production of oil, natural gas and coal as part of its wider push to strengthen US energy independence and industrial output.
Trump also argued that the Brownsville refinery would not only supply domestic markets but also support exports and national security objectives.
"A new Refinery at the Port of Brownsville, will fuel US Markets, strengthen our National Security, boost American Energy production, deliver Billions of Dollars in Economic impact, and will be THE CLEANEST REFINERY IN THE WORLD. It will power Global Exports, and bring THOUSANDS of long overdue Jobs and Growth to a Region that deserves it. This is what AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE looks like. AMERICA FIRST, ALWAYS" the US leader added further.
Questions Remain Over Deal Details and Reliance's Role
Despite Trump's strong claims, key details about the project are still unclear. It has not yet been clarified whether Reliance Industries is directly investing in the refinery, participating through a broader consortium, or being referenced as part of a wider India-US economic partnership.
An official statement from Reliance Industries on Trump's announcement is still awaited.
The refinery announcement has also come against the backdrop of heightened volatility in global energy markets, with world oil and gas supplies facing disruption due to the escalating conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel. That broader geopolitical backdrop has added significance to any new large-scale refining capacity in the United States.
