As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025 in the Lok Sabha today, the internet was flooded with memes.

Middle-Class Memes Take Over Social Media

Budget 2025 Memes

One of the most talked-about aspects of this year's Budget was the income tax exemption limit increase to ₹12 lakh, which triggered hilarious memes on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Users quickly took to the platform to express their reactions through witty posts and AI-generated images, with many celebrating the relief while others humorously plight of the middle class.

The updated tax regime now ensures that individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh (₹12.75 lakh for salaried taxpayers with a basic deduction of ₹75,000) will not be required to pay income tax. The government has introduced new tax slabs aimed at significantly reducing the tax burden on the middle class, thereby increasing household savings, consumption, and investments.

From Bollywood references to AI-generated visuals, social media was flooded with creative interpretations of Ms Sitharaman's announcements. Some users even morphed the Finance Minister's face onto popular Bollywood characters, amplifying the humor.

Bihar Receives Major Allocations, Triggers Online Reactions

Another key highlight of the Budget was the generous allocations for Bihar, making it the biggest beneficiary of government funds this year. Among the major projects announced for the state were:

  • Establishment of a Makhana Board to boost the production and export of Bihar's famed fox nuts.
  • A new IIT in Patna, strengthening the state's position as an emerging education hub.
  • A National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, promoting innovation in the food sector.
  • Support for the Western Kosi Canal, a crucial irrigation project for the region.
  • Several Greenfield projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and industrial growth.

Meanwhile, the Congress has taken the dig at the NDA and questioned why Andhra was ignored by the Centre despite ruling TDP being a key ally of the BJP. Senior leader Jairam Ramesh said, "Bihar appears to have got a bonanza of announcements. It is natural since elections are due there later in the year. But why is the other pillar of the NDA, namely Andhra Pradesh, been so cruelly ignored?"
