The Police have arrested the 28-year-old accused identified as Mahendra Singh Gond who works as a guest teacher in the local school in Parasmania Pathar.

The man had allegedly abducted the child when she was sleeping in the courtyard of her house. The accused then took her to a jungle around two kilometres away, raped her and left her under a tree as he thought she had died.

The victim's parents and other villagers found her later in Parasmania area of the district, the police said. The villagers traced the accused and beat him before handing him over to the police.

They rushed her to the local hospital from where she was taken to Satna district hospital.

The incident came close on the heels of the alleged rape and brutalisation of an eight-year-old girl in Mandsaur by two men on June 26.

According to government figures, a child is sexually abused every 15 minutes in India.

Figures show Madhya Pradesh is one of the most unsafe and dangerous places for women in the country as one woman is raped in the central state almost every two hours.
