Yet another connection between Narendra Modi and Sardar Patel

Bangalore, Nov 3: A uniqueness of Narendra Modi's march towards the national stage is that his influence does not remain confined to politics. From tea shirt to tattoos, sweets to musks, the Modi wave has indeed become a mass phenomenon. And now, a film is set to be made on the man who has seen a meteoric rise from a tea-seller to a frontrunner in the race for the topmost executive post in the Indian democracy.

According to a report published in Anandabazaar Patrika on Sunday, an NRI Gujarati has already spoken to Modi on the venture and the latter has given his nod.

Now, who will take up the key job? According to reports, noted Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, also a Gujarati, is eager to play the role. Rawal, known for his strong admiration for the state chief minister, had also campaigned for the latter during last year's assembly polls in Gujarat. Will he play Modi now?

Paresh Rawal had played the role of Sardar Patel in a biopic in 1993

If he does, it will be an interesting little moment of history. In 1993, Rawal had played Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the biopic titled Sardar and if he plays Modi, now it will not just be a double feat for the actor but also a strange coincidence, given the ongoing controversy over the Iron Man and Modi.

The BJP leader and the Congress are engaged in a bitter tussle over Sardar Patel's legacy at the moment and a few days ago, Modi said in the presence of Congress Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that Sardar Patel should have been the first prime minister of India. He has also taken an initiative to set up a massive iron statue of Sardar Patel in Gujarat, which will be double the size of the Statue of Liberty in the USA.

Although the makers of the film on Modi said that it has nothing to do with the parliamentary elections due next year, but political observers feel it could play a significant part in the Modi story.
