Woman Shot Dead After Divorce-Related Argument in Bengaluru

A domestic dispute linked to an ongoing divorce case ended in tragedy in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, after a man allegedly shot his wife dead near a hotel in Basaveshwaranagar before surrendering to the police.

The incident occurred around 6.30 pm near the West Inn Hotel, where the woman was confronted by her estranged husband shortly after returning from court proceedings related to their divorce. The accused has been identified as Bala Murugan, while the victim was Bhuvaneshwari.

Police said the couple, natives of Tamil Nadu, had been living separately for some time due to prolonged marital discord and were in the process of legally dissolving their marriage. Investigators believe tensions surrounding the divorce led to a heated argument between the two when they crossed paths near the hotel.

During the confrontation, Bala Murugan allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire. Bhuvaneshwari was reportedly shot four times, sustaining bullet injuries to her head and hand. She collapsed at the scene and died due to severe blood loss before medical help could arrive.

Following the shooting, the accused is said to have gone straight to a police station, where he surrendered. He has since been taken into custody.

Police confirmed that Bala Murugan works as a software engineer, while Bhuvaneshwari was employed with a bank. A detailed investigation is now under way to determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, as well as to verify whether the firearm used was legally licensed.

Authorities are also examining the background of the marital dispute and any previous complaints between the couple. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
