Woman In Bhovi Corporation Scandal Dies By Suicide, CID Officer Accused Of Stripping Woman in Death Note

A 33-year-old entrepreneur reportedly died by suicide, leaving behind an 11-page note accusing a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) official of persistent "mental harassment" and even allegedly "forcing her to strip down" during the agency's probe into alleged irregularities with the Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation, according to police.

Banashankari Police Inspector P Kotresh stated that the deceased, a resident of Padmanabhanagar, was alone at the time of her death, as her younger sister was in Mangaluru for work. Concerned when she couldn't reach her sister early Friday morning, the younger sibling asked a friend to check on her. The friend, sensing something was wrong, alerted neighbors and the police. After breaking into the house, they discovered the woman's body.

Woman In Bhovi Corporation Scandal Dies

The irregularities related to the Bhovi Development Corporation, uncovered between 2021-22, involved the alleged misuse of funds intended for loans to the Bhovi community under a government job scheme. Multiple cases from Siddapura, Doddaballapur, and Kalagi were transferred to the CID for investigation earlier this year. The deceased owned a wood furniture supply firm and was accused of submitting inflated bills for items ordered by the corporation.

According to the Banashankari Police Inspector, the entrepreneur's 11-page suicide note described the severe psychological strain caused by repeated questioning from CID officials. However, the authenticity of the note has not been independently verified.

The alleged note cited that the emotional toll from the investigation led her to take the extreme step. Following the death, her sister filed a formal complaint against CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kanakalakshmi, accusing her of abetment to suicide. As a result, the Banashankari police have registered a case under section 308(6) (extortion), and an investigation is ongoing.
