Woman In Bengaluru Spends Over ₹16k On Uber, More Than Half Her Rent

Bengaluru, often dubbed India's IT hub, is notorious for its high living costs. The city's heavy traffic forces residents to spend more on transportation than housing. One shared on social media that her Uber expenses surpassed half her monthly rent. She pointed out the city's high costs and mentioned that CRED's feature helped her notice this.

"I can't believe my Uber expenses are more than half the amount I pay as rent in Bengaluru. For me, this has got to be the most useful feature by CRED till date!" she wrote, sharing a screenshot of her Uber transactions on X (formerly Twitter). A screenshot reveals that the woman completed 74 Uber trips from July 1 to 25, amounting to an astonishing ₹16,600.

High Transportation Costs in Bengaluru

Since being shared on July 25, the post has garnered over 95,000 views, with the numbers continuing to rise. Numerous people have also commented on the post to share their thoughts. One individual wrote, "At this point, maybe it's better if you buy yourself a vehicle. Even monthly EMIs would be far lesser." Another user joked, "You deserve a loyalty card from Uber."

A third user commented, "As someone who pays 700 on one side, I dread looking at this feature. Thankfully I don't have to travel to office everyday." A fourth person remarked, "You can get a Baleno or an i10 on EMI at that same rate." A fifth person shared, "That's the only reason I bought a two-wheeler for myself here. Super convenient and don't have to think twice about going anywhere. And most important. Don't have to deal with ride cancellation and high ride prices in rain."

Public Reaction

The woman's post has sparked a conversation about the cost of living in Bengaluru. Many users suggested alternatives like buying a vehicle or using public transport to save money. The discussion highlights how transportation costs can significantly impact one's budget in a city known for its traffic woes.

One user humorously noted that she deserves a loyalty card from Uber due to her frequent usage. Another pointed out that purchasing a vehicle might be more economical in the long run compared to daily rideshare expenses.

Another user expressed relief at not having to commute daily due to high travel costs. This sentiment resonates with many who find commuting in Bengaluru both time-consuming and expensive.

Alternative Solutions

Some users recommended buying two-wheelers for convenience and cost-effectiveness. They highlighted benefits like avoiding ride cancellations and high fares during rain. This suggestion underscores the need for practical solutions in cities with challenging traffic conditions.

The conversation also touched upon how technology can help track expenses and make informed financial decisions. The woman's use of CRED's feature exemplifies how digital tools can provide insights into spending habits.
