Wilson Garden Naga And Darshan Scandal: What Does This Mean For Bengaluru’s Criminal Underworld?
A recent photo showing Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa receiving VIP treatment inside Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Jail has gone viral on social media. In the image, Darshan, who is imprisoned in connection with a Renukaswamy murder case, is seen enjoying a tea and cigarette alongside Wilson Garden Naga. But who exactly is Naga?
Who Is Wilson Garden Naga?

Wilson Garden Naga, whose real name is J Nagaraj, is a notorious figure in Bengaluru's criminal underworld. Known for his extensive criminal record, Naga has been involved in a series of violent crimes over the past two decades. His criminal activities include murder, extortion, and dacoity, making him a well-known name in the city's gangland.
Criminal Background and Activities
Naga's criminal career spans over 20 years, during which he has accumulated numerous charges. He has been involved in several high-profile cases, including the murder of another gangster, Kormangla Babbli, in 2017.
His criminal ventures extend to real estate disputes, often resolved through violent means. Naga's criminal record includes:
Murder and Attempted Murder: Naga faces charges in five cases of murder or attempted murder, with a total of 23 criminal cases filed against him, including seven for murder.
Drug-Related Offenses: In 2021, Naga was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
Gang Rivalries: His rivalry with Siddapura Mahesh culminated in Mahesh's murder in August 2024. Naga and his gang were implicated in this killing, leading to the invocation of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) against them.
Recent Controversies
Naga's recent activities have kept him in the limelight. Before the May 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, Naga was seen visiting BJP minister V Sommana's residence, raising eyebrows despite Sommana's denial of any connection with him. Naga's association with high-profile individuals and his presence in the current controversy with Darshan Thoogudeepa have further fueled public interest.
The photo of Darshan and Naga inside the prison, showing them enjoying luxuries and engaging in casual activities, has sparked outrage and led to an investigation into possible prison rule violations and preferential treatment. Naga's presence in the photo has added to the scrutiny, highlighting the issues surrounding VIP treatment within the prison system.
In response to the viral photo, the Karnataka government has launched a probe to determine whether the image was taken inside the prison and if any preferential treatment was being afforded. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara visited the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail to review the security situation and address concerns about VIP treatment for prisoners.
