Will Karnataka government defy the Supreme Court on Cauvery?
Bengaluru, Sept 13: Karnataka is likely to defy the order of the Supreme Court, following Monday's violent protests over the Cauvery Waters issue.
At the high level meeting being held at the Chief Minister's residence several leaders have suggested that the order of the court must be defied.

If the high level meeting agrees to this proposal then the same would be placed before the cabinet at 11.30 am on Tuesday and an official decision will be taken. This would be a huge political gamble for the Congress government in Karnataka which has been at the receiving end over the Cauvery waters issue.
The high level meeting being held at the Chief Minister's residence is attended by several senior Congress leaders including Margret Alva, Oscar Fernandes, Veerappa Moily among others.
Sources say that the meeting is discussing the ongoing situation and is also considering the possibility of defying the Supreme Court's order which ordered on Monday to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu until September 20th.
If the state defies the order then it can be hauled up for contempt. The Supreme Court can also recommend to the President of India to dismiss the government.
Many within the Congress feel that such an order would help them politically in the Cauvery basin as the issue is an extremely emotive one. Many protestors have been urging the government to defy the order of the Supreme Court.
